Kabirhat Municipality under Noakhali district was established on 01/12/1996 with an area of 10.96 sq km. Mr. Haji Md. Idris Mia was the first administrator. Mr. Zillur Rahman, Hon'ble Minister in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, inaugurated the Kabirhat Municipality on 12/12/1996. Also present were Mr. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Hon'ble Minister, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mr. Obaidul Quader, Hon'ble Minister of State, Ministry of Local Government, Rural and Cooperatives, Mr. Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Hon'ble Deputy Minister, Ministry of Shipping and Hon'ble Member of Parliament for the present Noakhali Sadar constituency. Ekramul Karim Chowdhury. Kabirhat municipality consists of 09 wards. The population currently stands at about 30,000. A Government Degree College, a Model High School, 5 Government Primary Schools, 03 Registered Primary Schools, 4 KG Schools, 1 Alim Madrasa, 1 Health Center, 1 Model Thana, Registration Office, Municipal Building, Community Center, Upazila Health Complex Building and many more. NGOs currently exist. The municipality has been upgraded from Rig class to B class. The roads, ghats, poles, culverts, education and culture of the municipality have been extensively improved. Incumbent Mayor Mr. Zahirul Haque Raihan has made a brilliant decision and the municipal area is being improved through new projects. The present council is working for the implementation of peace and order, humanity, human rights, justice and civil rights in the area.
